FAQs
How do I prepare for my session?
{A} One of the perks of being a JMP client is having all of this explained in great detail in the JMP Prep Guide which is emailed to you shortly after booking your session. This will cover exactly how you should prepare your face, body, and mind for your photo shoot, as well as a complete list of resources for beauty appointments and wardrobe for your photo shoot! This is a COMPLETE + thorough guide so that you don’t have to sweat the smallest detail. I take pride in offering a first class experience to my clients… my process is to inform and educate it goes beyond just showing up and shooting.
I am not a model and I have never done anything like this before, is that a problem?
{A} Definitely not a problem! I photograph everyday women who have never modeled before – that is, in fact, my specialty. I will gently guide you throughout your shoot and answer any questions and do my best to calm any fears.
What if I want really beautiful pictures of myself but don’t really want to do “boudoir”?
{A} With “boudoir” there is a certain state of undress involved that some may be uncomfortable with, whether it’s in a bra and panty set, body suit, a sheet or nude I go out of my way to create an empowering and comfortable environment and create photographs that celebrate both the female figure and the individual woman I am taking portraits of. That being said you don’t have to do a “boudoir” shoot to get beautiful photos of yourself, my style is editorial and contemporary and we can definitely choose outfits for you that you are comfortable in and highlight your beauty without the sexual component. Whether it’s personal branding or a more contemporary fine art style portraiture we can design a photoshoot experience that shows the version of yourself you desire to see.
Where will my boudoir session take place? Do you have a studio?
{A} My studio is located in Basalt, CO. We can schedule your photoshoot experience to be at my studio or at a different location. On location and travel sessions have different pricing. If you would like to schedule a session that is out of town we will price according to travel and venue costs.

Can I bring a friend to my session?
{A} Having your best friend can be helpful for calming your nerves and giving you the reassurance you need to get started with your session. I don’t mind if you have one friend with you for this! My only ask is that your friend be there only for moral support and not to interfere with the process of me or my team. No running into the shot to “touch up” or directing your posing, and no negativity. That is my ask. Also, I do not allow more than one friend in the room with us and NEVER boyfriends/husbands/spouses. That is a firm policy.
I do offer boudoir parties for bachelorette and girls day out parties, for further detail please email hello@joymaura-c2070e.ingress-daribow.ewp.live
On which days of the week can I have my photo session?
{A} I am a traditional Monday – Friday business. I spend my weekends with my loved ones and in nature. Your shoot would be the perfect excuse to take a “sneaky” day from work to feel fabulous and get pampered! Hell, make it a long weekend! – that being said Fridays book up fast, so plan in advance.
How much can you “edit out”?
{A:}
The inevitable photoshop question…My Photoshop style is pretty light handed, I use strategic posing to “conceal” insecurities and to highlight the best features of each woman that is in front fo my camera. But I get it, we all have things we want to “fix” or just not focus on. When it comes to pimples – I remove that shit – anything that is not a permanent part of you is removed, touched up/softened. On things like cellulite, my shooting style and soft post editing take care of that well – when it comes to tiger stripes I have an appreciation for them and see the beauty in the story that they tell but I leave it to the woman I am photographing whether they stay or go.
I do not use “warping techniques” meaning I do not take off pounds in the post editing process, all of my posing is done to flatter and focus on your favorite parts of yourself.
I am a school teacher/pastor’s wife/high profile actress/senator/running for presidency so privacy and discretion is a great concern… will you keep this a secret?
{A:} I understand and respect if your wish is to not want your images shared with the public. So rest assured your images will not be shared without your permission. I never outsource images to editing companies (leaving them vulnerable to being stolen), I do all of my own editing in-house. At your reveal you will see your images directly at your in-person viewing. If you are out of town we will make arrangements to a screen share viewing that is over a secure network.
Just in case you are overwhelmed with pride and can’t wait to share any of these images with the world and do give me the permission to share some of the more anonymous images I will never release your identity or associate you in anyway. Also I am always happy to sign NDA’s should you need one from me because of your profession or public visibility.
Will you use my images on your website/blog/portfolio?
{A:} I would LOVE to share your images from our session and behind the scenes content to show other women your gorgeous photos. But I also completely understand if you or your partner are uncomfortable with the idea of sharing them. So that said, I do not share anything unless you give me the permission to do so. I honor whatever level of privacy you need and ask of me. Whether you’re only down to share faceless, more anonymous images, choose the ones yourself, or give me the go ahead to share it all: I will do as you wish 😉
